Synopsis
Inspired by true events, Opal is a stylistically daring feature film that brings to light one of the west coast’s true maverick women, Opal Whiteley. Raised in a logging camp at the turn of the twentieth century, Opal becomes an international sensation with the publication of her childhood nature journals.
But things go awry when encoded messages are discovered in Opal’s writing, setting off a storm of controversy. While the questions concerning her diary have yet to be resolved, the film rides the tension between truth and fiction, and presents a character who embodies the possibilities of both.
